Cleveland's small business community is buzzing with the opening of Beauty Shoppe, a 24-hour coworking and office space designed to help entrepreneurs grow their businesses, and the accompanying Foyer coffee shop.
Both entities are located in the burgeoning Seymour Building (located on the southwest corner of W. 25th St. and Detroit Ave.), which was originally constructed in 1876 and now springing back to life via the Snavely Group. Together The Beauty Shoppe and The Foyer comprise 12,000 square feet on the ground level, which will also have public event space and pop-up retail for Cleveland-crafted wares.
The Beauty Shoppe Seymour Building celebrated its official grand opening last Thursday, August 9, while the Foyer opened earlier in July. Beauty Shoppe already has six successful locations in Pittsburgh, and Cleveland is its first venture outside of Pittsburgh (though it was initially slated to open in the Victory Center in the Health Tech Corridor back in 2015 before officials made plans to open in Ohio City). The Foyer is the company’s first foray into the coffee shop realm.
"We're excited to bring a burgeoning small business economy even closer together, while facilitating the relationships and connections that help members advance their work and steward business inclusion," says Zachary Ciccone, head of growth at Beauty Shoppe. “Beauty Shoppe is thrilled to open our newest coworking space and to be a part of the incredibly vibrant and creative neighborhood in Ohio City."
The new coworking space offers five different levels of membership, from student packages to enterprise packages for growing businesses in need of a satellite office or additional space. Amenities include high-speed internet; conference and meeting rooms and event space; mail services; printing and photocopying services; private phone booths; coffee, tea, and water; and special programming.
“The in-house management team at Beauty Shoppe Seymour Building has obsessively curated wellness, education and community programming to promote a productive, genuine work experience,” says Annelise Lopez, operations manager at Beauty Shoppe Seymour Building. “We look forward to welcoming members into this exquisite space."
The Beauty Shoppe's design is Bavarian-inspired, and in keeping with the company-wide ethos of invigorating historic buildings, draws on the existing high ceilings and large windows of the nineteenth-century building.
While an extension of the Beauty Shoppe as a place for coworkers to gather for a snack, coffee, or tea, the Foyer is open to the public and wants to establish itself as part of the Ohio City neighborhood, according to manager Kyle Webb. “We want to serve as a warm, welcoming space for the community to relax and socialize with their neighbors,” Webb says. “Anyone in the neighborhood or just walking by is welcome to drop in.”
Open since the first week in July, Webb reports nothing but positive feedback from customers. “Anytime someone walks into the Foyer, they reach for their phone to take pictures,” he says of both the specialty drinks and the Bavarian-inspired décor, done by Beauty Shoppe’s in-house design team.
Webb, who has a background in the craft cocktail business, takes pride in the specialty drinks he creates at Foyer with a heavy focus on presentation. Some of Foyer’s specialty drinks include the refreshing Kaffe Tonic (espresso poured over tonic and ice); the Japanese Iced Coffee (flash-brewed over ice); and cold brewer iced teas (for which loose tea is steeped in distilled water for 14 hours). “The cold brew brings out the natural sweetness in the tea,” Webb explains.
The shop currently serves Brooklyn-based Parlor Coffee, and Webb says they recently partnered with Tommy’s Pastries in Lakewood. Future plans call for a small breakfast and lunch menu provided by Ohio City Provisions. Last Friday, August 10, Foyer held its first weekly Friday Pop-Up Lunch, catered by The Plum, in partnership with Ohio City Provisions. The lunches will be held every Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
