CLE native Dale Schwartz comes home to open his 10th Pinstripes location
When the bowling and bocce balls start rolling this weekend at the new Pinstripes at Pinecrest, it will also mark a homecoming for owner Dale Schwartz as he opens the doors to his 10th location.
Schwartz, who grew up bowling at the now-defunct nearby Pepper Lanes on Chagrin Boulevard, is originally from Beachwood and is a graduate of Hawken School. While the memories of bowling at the iconic alley—now replaced with Eton Chagrin—helped spawn the idea to create his classic bowling, bocce, and bistro chains across the country, Schwartz says he is happy to return to his roots and celebrate the Pinstripes opening this Saturday, July 14.
“I’m finally coming back to Cleveland with our tenth location,” he says. “Everything that Pinstripes does is about people, connecting, and just celebrating. It’s really nice to connect, and it’s going to be enjoyable to see family and celebrate with all of them at Pinstripes.”
The 30,000-square-foot, two-story building has 14 bowling lanes, nine bocce courts, and an open kitchen featuring made-from-scratch rustic Italian-American dishes made by executive chef Jeremy Banzhof, a local who previously served as head chef at P.F. Chang’s in Beachwood.
The kitchen serves lunch and dinner, as well as late-night and happy hour menus. In addition to its regular Sunday brunch menu—featuring omelet, carving, and waffle stations, as well as a chef’s menu—Schwartz is introducing a Saturday brunch menu with selections like lobster crostini, smoked salmon flatbread, and prosciutto di Parma eggs benedict.
The bar features a rotating variety of draft and bottled local beers from Platform, Market Garden, Great Lakes, Fat Head, and Brew Kettle, as well as from Cincinnati’s Rheingheist and Angry Orchard.
Pinstripes has flexible private event space that accommodates groups ranging from 20 to 600 people. “There are patios on both levels, with fire pits on both levels,” shares Schwartz.
According to Schwartz, the construction and design team was also all local, with Shaker Heights-based RDL Architects designing the structure; Wickliffe-based Joe Kolencik doing the millwork; and Schwartz’s sister, Cindy Cohen, founder of Beachwood-based C.Rae Interiors designing the interior. Cleveland-based Drake Construction served as general contractor on both the Pinecrest and Bethesda Pinstripes.
“It’s a fact, we’ve always used makers out of Cleveland,” says Schwartz of his all-local team.
