Inquiring minds want to know: Why do residents choose to stay in (or leave) Cleveland?

With the busy spring real estate season around the corner, Cleveland Neighborhood Progress has a question: what prompts families and residents to choose between the suburbs and the city's various neighborhoods?

Together with Old Brooklyn Community Development Corporation, CNP is leading a market research program to find out just that—examining factors like size of home, value versus cost, local access and transportation, neighborhood amenities, and quality of life.

Currently, Burges and Burges is collecting information via a survey and several upcoming focus groups to better understand homebuyers’ preferences for their chosen neighborhood and consult recent homebuyers to see what influenced their decisions. The process began with in-depth interviews of various Cleveland-based stakeholders and neighborhood partners, and those interviews were used to develop the survey.

The survey is designed to help community development professionals in the city of Cleveland understand both what they are lacking and what assets they already have and should further promote. "As the city continues to see growth in select neighborhoods, it has become critical that diverse options are made available to keep young professionals and families in the city," says OBCDC's Jason Powers.
