During the 2016 Republican National Convention this July, Cleveland expects more than 50,000 visitors and unprecedented media attention. Conventioneers will spend the majority of their time in a small compact section of downtown. Public and private entities are well aware of that attention. To wit, in a story that's running alongside this one, Fresh Water outlines five massive development projects unfurling downtown that will indeed cater to those conventioneers and aim to shape their opinion of our town.

By way of balance, The Fixers, a collaboration between Cleveland artist Kate Sopko and a cohort of filmmakers, will pull the camera back and offer street-level tours Clevelanders would give RNC delegates if given the chance. This series of short films asks Clevelanders to tell their stories about what it's like to ride public transit, coping with violence in their neighborhoods and accessing healthy options in Cleveland's food deserts, among many other topics.

The Fixers will be presented at SPACES from May 20 - July 21. The project will also be on display at Smack-Mellon in Brooklyn, New York, from June 18 - July 31.

If the trailer for this project (below) is any indication, The Fixers promises to emerge as an intimate and contrasting view of a city that is otherwise preoccupied with a self-contained event.
