Every year, Gordon Square Arts District is home to the Día de Muertos celebration. The "Day of the Dead" is a traditional Mexican holiday that honors the loved ones to whom we've said goodbye. Cleveland's event is authentic, uber local and wall-to-wall fun.
While you scroll through this page and enjoy some of Fresh Water managing photographer Bob Perkoski's photos of past events, make sure to make time for the 2016 Día de Muertos, which takes place this Saturday, Oct. 29.
The festivities include a host of artistic displays and installations, costumes, a parade, music, dancing and free performances. It all kicks off at 11 a.m. and goes clear through 10 p.m. Complete information, including entertainment details and scheduling, is available on the event website.
Sponsors for the 2016 Día de Muertos program include Artistas Latinos Unidos, Cleveland Public Theatre, Ward 15 Councilman Matt Zone, Detroit Shoreway Community Development Organization, Cleveland City Council, Riverside Cemetery, Craciun Berry Funeral Home, Cleveland Museum of Art and the Cleveland Foundation via the grant program, Neighborhood Connections.
