On September 30th, 2010, Fresh Water launched with a full slate of colorful, insightful stories about "what's next?" for Cleveland. Which means that 10 days ago, we quietly turned four years old.
Not bad for a digital publication these days. We celebrated doing what we usually do -- digging up stories about innovation, development and community change.
Yet we have to stop and toot our own horn a little bit. In the past year, we've introduced many notable changes -- a new look that is more responsive and contemporary, daily coverage that allows us to respond to news quickly even as we cover bigger trend stories. Our social media presence has grown, too.
Founding editor Doug Trattner laid the groundwork, turning out great stories for four years. His work often went unnoticed, but his leadership made an impact. Doug developed many of our most popular features, turned out polished stories with his eagle eye for editing, and shepherded our new design into existence.
This month, Lee Chilcote, who has served as Development Editor and also written many feature stories, took over as Managing Editor of Fresh Water. With a background is in community and economic development, journalism and marketing, he's looking forward to taking Fresh Water in exciting new directions.
Our work wouldn't be possible without our small but mighty team -- Publisher Fran Didonato, Innovation Editor Karin Rice, Managing Photographer Bob Perkoski and our awesome team of writers, especially Erin O'Brien and Doug Guth.
In the coming weeks and months, expect more changes. We'll delve into topics that aren't talked about and cover neighborhoods that don't get enough attention. We'll prowl forgotten corners of the city and tell their stories. We'll reach out to the newest startup companies.
What's our goal? To spark community conversations. To cover changemakers and innovators. To explore our changing city. We couldn't do it without you, our readers, or the sponsors who help us turn out great stories.
Got an idea that you want to share? We love hearing from you. Write us at feedback@freshwatercleveland.com. And please keep commenting on and sharing our stories -- we're listening.
