For 10 years, my husband and I have lived in Ohio City, where we are now raising our three kids (Alta 5.5, Mather 4 and Case 2.5). We enjoy living in one of Cleveland’s great neighborhoods, which boasts walkable attractions like the West Side Market, Carnegie West Library, and Kentucky Gardens. More significantly, it's home to an abundance of young families who enjoy taking advantage of their own neighborhood as well as others throughout the city.

This summer, the kids and I created our “Cleveland Summer Bucket List,” which includes 10 places and activities to explore in Cleveland that are free!

Cleveland Mounted Police
Rainy days are perfect for visiting the Cleveland Mounted Police Station because all eight horses most likely will be in the station! Bring apples or carrots to feed the horses -- Brutus will eat anything! The kids ran up and down the stalls and were even able to help an office saddle up a horse.

Cleveland Public Library Eastman Garden
In addition to the flowing pool, bronze garden gate and garden mascots, the Eastman Reading Garden is home to the newly installed "Reading Nest" sculpture by artist Mark Reigelman. The kids loved running inside it and looking up at the sky.

Halloran Roller Skating Rink
Step back in time at the outdoor Halloran Roller Skating Rink (3550 W. 117th St.), a hidden gem in the city. The cost is only $1.00 to rents skates and $0.25 to get in.

Ohio City Farm
Just north of the West Side Market is the Ohio City Farm, one of county's largest urban farms. A long path leads through the farms of six growers, including the Refugee Response and Cleveland Crops, who grow herbs, vegetables and flowers. A farm stand sells produce Fridays and Saturdays.

Superman House and Carol and John's Comic Store
Take a trip through history and visit the birthplace of Superman, a residential home (10622 Kimberly Ave.) that is lived in but visible from the street. Need more comic fun? Visit Carol and John’s Comic Shop for comics, collectables and so much more.

Rockefeller Park Greenhouse and Cultural Gardens
The free Rockefeller Park Greenhouse offers plenty to see and enjoy, including an acre under glass and over three acres on the grounds. Explore the Helen Keller Blind Garden and enjoy the park's plant collections and themed gardens. After, check out the string of 36 Cultural Gardens along East and MLK boulevards.

Wade Oval Wednesdays
Pack up the kids, assemble some snacks, grab a blanket, and head over to Wade Oval in University Circle to enjoy live music, crafts and entertainment. The free weekly events kick off at 6 p.m.

International Women's Air & Space Museum
Visits the International Women's Air & Space Museum at Burke Lakefront Airport and learn about the impact that women had on the industry. Exhibits include artifacts, photographs, articles, clothing and other items relating to the history of women (including Amelia Earhart) in aviation. Kids ages 5-12 years can join the Kids Club.

Lakeview Cemetery
Explore the culture and history of Lakeview Cemetery, a gorgeous park-like space where many famous and infamous Clevelanders are laid to rest. Beautiful sculptural markers, the James A. Garfield Monument, and Tiffany gilded Wade Memorial Chapel are all right here.

Literary Lots
For two weeks in August, Novak Park by the Carnegie West Library in Ohio City, will be transformed into a "Literary Lot" for children and families. Summer programs include art and writing workshops, outdoor movies, poetry slams and more.

Edgewater Park
With over 130 acres, Edgewater Park offers views of downtown, a small playground, a half-mile sandy beach, a fishing pier and plenty of places to picnic and fly a kite. Enjoy some of Cleveland favorite ice cream at Honey Hut. Ride bikes to the park through the newly opened West 76th tunnel.
