PHOTOS: Exploring the new section of the Towpath Trail and beyond

At last weekend's Towpath Stomp event, Canalway Partners feted the newest addition to the ever-evolving Towpath Trail—a small but mighty quarter-mile stretch from Sokolowski's University Inn to Hart Crane Park (near Merwin's Wharf) with a passageway under the Inner Belt Bridge. (The new section also winds by the Cleveland script sign at the Abbey Avenue overlook, providing a prime perch for a quick photo detour.) It's all part of a $5 million effort by the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) to help reconnect Tremont with the Flats and other parts of the city.

To celebrate the trail's growth, Fresh Water photographer Bob Perkoski set out to photograph the Towpath Trail, documenting both the old and the new and their seamless connection through beautiful Cleveland and beyond.

In addition to his work for Fresh Water, Bob Perkoski is the official photographer for LAND studio and Cleveland Burlesque. He recently published a book of his photos Rust Belt Burlesque. He's had work published in other books like LGBTQ Cleveland by Ken Schneck, Rust Belt Chic: The Cleveland Anthology, Rust Belt Chic: The Pittsburgh Anthology and Moon Cleveland by Douglas Trattner. Previously he was co-founder/art director for Balanced Living Magazine. His substantial portfolio includes news coverage, portraiture, commercial imagery and fine art. Originally from Conneaut, Ohio, Perkoski now lives close to the city in Parma. He has been Fresh Water's managing photographer since the publication's September 2010 inception.
