The women of the Road Kill Comedy Series are making their first-ever appearance in Cleveland. “We are so excited to come to Cleveland, we want the show to be so kick ass that we're all added to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame,” joked Los Angeles-based comedian Dana Moon.

Road Kill is a live standup comedy tour that’s also filmed for a television docu-series. The tour consists of Dana Moon of Oxygen's “Straight Up with a Twist,” Lisa Curry of MTV’s Girl Code/ Guy Code blog, and Jessica Michelle Singleton who amongst many other standup achievements was the first English speaking female to participate in Montreux Comedy Festival, Europe’s largest comedy festival.

We got in touch with the three stand-up women on the road to give you a taste of their humor. It seems that their only preexisting connection to the city exists within the Drew Carey show. We can only hope that their experience in Cleveland leave a lasting impression much like Mimi’s blue eyeshadow.

How did the women of Road Kill Comedy meet and join forces?

We all met doing stand up in Los Angeles. I think we instantly connected because we were all very supportive and encouraging of one another. This is our second tour. We changed the name from the “Walk of Shame Comedy Tour” to “Road Kill Comedy.”

Do you have any jokes about Cleveland?

Dana: If by Cleveland you mean Tinder than yes, I have tons of jokes about Cleveland!

Jessica Michelle: The city or that character from Family Guy?

Lisa: My only knowledge of Cleveland is the world that exists within The Drew Carey Show.

Has anyone ever tried to tell you that “women aren't funny?” How do you respond?

Dana: When I first started doing comedy I heard that a lot and I think it was good because it drove me to work harder and strive to get better. Now I never hear that because I think everything is shifting and funny women are just funny people and killing it right now just as hard as men.

Jessica Michelle: The only time I get people who say women aren't funny are men after shows who usually have three teeth and say things like “you know I usually don't think women are funny but...” and I'm like really? That's because you've never listened to a woman speak ever in your life.

Lisa: Yeah, I hear and every time I hear that its always from someone who is not very intelligent. I usually respond with “yeah we still don't know if black people are funny yet?”

The snow melting officially signifies that it’s just about time to get back on the saddle and take a bike ride. As the seasons change, the mass grows. And this month, Critical Mass coincides with fish fry season. You know what that means? This month’s ride will head to the Nash in Slavic Village for a fish fry. Critical Mass typically meets at Public Square but since Superior Ave. and Ontario St. within the square are closed for construction until July 2016, Critical Mass will be meeting at The Mall just west of the Cleveland Convention Center on St. Clair Ave in the rain, snow or if we’re lucky, the sunshine. The Nash accepts cash only.

Waterloo Alley Cat Project Fundraiser

Animal lovers, unite! It’s not easy to be a feral cat during Cleveland’s winter and it also hasn’t been an easy season for the volunteers who care for cats in North Collinwood. This season, a few of the cats were hit by cars, another was poisoned, and nearly 20 were killed by a roaming pack of dogs let loose in the neighborhood.

Waterloo Alley Cat Project (WACP) is a volunteer-based nonprofit dedicated to ethically controlling the neighborhood’s feral cat population. They have spayed and neutered over 150 cats and found homes for over 20. The benefit at Gallery One Sixty will include live DJs and cool cat art and calendars. Monetary donations as well as cat food are highly appreciated.

Cleveland Institute of Art is sponsoring a free, public conference on March 28 on why art matters to students, and to cities. Titled F1RST, the conference includes a morning session for teachers, with CEU credits available, and an afternoon session open to the public.

“First things first: artists and other creative professionals add health and vitality to communities; but first those artists and creative professionals approach art as students and community members,” said conference organizer Lane Cooper, chair of CIA’s Painting Department. “For this to happen, those who bring art to communities need others to support them in this important work. Our F1RST conference is meant to do just that.”

This two-part symposium will be in CIA’s Gund Building, 11141 East Boulevard. The morning session for teachers is titled “Content for the Classroom,” and an afternoon session, “Why Art Matters to Students, to Cities,” will feature a keynote address and panel discussion spotlighting the value of art and artists to our communities. Complimentary continental breakfast and light lunch will be provided.
