This weekend, five Cleveland neighborhoods are hosting five very different events. Whether you live on the east side or the west side, there are plenty of opportunities to explore new neighborhoods and try new things. Learn to swing dance, try a new beer and visit a museum you’ve never been to for free — why not, it’s all within an arms reach this weekend!

Walk All Over Waterloo

Waterloo Arts District

There’s just something about Waterloo. Between its large-scale public murals, unique venues, diverse selection of independent retail stores, dining and growing number of galleries and artist’s studios  — the neighborhood’s ethnic history informs and adds to the richness of the burgeoning art community.

On the first Friday of every month, Waterloo Arts District hosts Walk all Over Waterloo. The streetscape is finished and new businesses including Waterloo Brew attached to the historic Slovenian Workmen's Home, Cyclops Tattoo Studio, Dru Christine Fabrics & Design, and Loren Naji’s latest Satellite Gallery recently joined the district. This month, Article – Art in Cleveland, a gallery and artists' studio space, on Waterloo West of East 156th, opened near the Slovenian Workmen's Home and Waterloo 7 Studio/Gallery.

Check out an assortment of art openings including Winterloo Art Mix II a Holiday exhibition and sale that is also a fundraising event for the nonprofit Waterloo Arts (previously called Arts Collinwood,) Cozy Up, Native Cleveland's first official art show, Satellite Gallery’s Blast Off! Installation art show, and Gallery One Sixty: "Mixed Bag" works by Justin Brennan & Melinda Placko.

Remember to shop for the vinyl collectors in your life at Music Saves and Blue Arrow Records, or pickup vintage toys and clothing at STAR POP. Hours vary by business. After shops and galleries close, Beachland Ballroom is open late, come to local indie garage pop Ottowa's (Random Lights EP Release show).

Collective Upcycle Re-Opens in Gordon Square

Gordon Square Arts District

Collective Upcycle believes in transformation, whether it’s creating jewelry out of Lake Erie beach glass, constructing cutting boards made from salvaged wood or designing new clothing by sewing together recycled fabrics. Upcycling is transforming leftover materials into new creations to increases their value and function.

Collective Upcycle is a pop-up shop only opened for a limited time with limited hours located on the corner of Gordon Square, where visitors can buy local, handmade, upcycled and creatively reused art and gifts.

Collective Upcycle’s current pop-up location at the corner of Gordon Square is a collaboration by Upcycle Parts Shop and St. Clair Superior Development Corporation’s Upcycle St. Clair project in partnership with the Detroit Shoreway Community.

University Circle

This Saturday, put on that dress in the back of your closet that flairs out when you spin, have a drink and learn to jitterbug to a live big band! Valerie Salstrom, international swing dance champion and founder of Cleveland-based dance company Get Hep Swing, will be teaching basics inside of the Cleveland Museum of Art’s spacious atrium. But if you’re feeling shy, don’t fear. Dancing is recommended but not required. Visitors are free to explore the museum and enjoy the infectious big band music. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 day of event and free for CMA members.

This Sunday, (re)visit a museum or introduce your family and friends to Cleveland's cultural treasures for free at the 21st Annual Holiday CircleFest. This event is the perfect way to start the holiday season. More than 20 University Circle businesses and organizations will open their doors for one amazing day of activities, music, shopping, and holiday treats. Visit the museums, botanical gardens, Cleveland Public Library, or Lake View Cemetery. Loganberry Books’ 20^th Anniversary

Loganberry Books is proud to announce its 20^th Anniversary — 20 years is a big deal, especially for a small business, and especially in the book business. Loganberry first opened in November of 1994 on Larchmere, and in the summer of 2003 moved a block down the street where they are today. The bookstore is celebrating with live music, book presentations, and book signings all day long, plus food and drink. Pick up the perfect books for your friends and family and receive the satisfaction of supporting your local independent bookstore.

Light Up Lakewood

Get in the mood for the Holidays and celebrate the diversity of the Lakewood community on Saturday at Light Up Lakewood! It’s an all-day event starting with Breakfast with Santa that doesn’t end until the music stops at 8pm. The annual event is presented by local nonprofit LakewoodAlive in conjunction with many businesses and organizations and last year it drew an estimated 10,000 visitors.

The Holiday Parade starts at Parkhaven Row at 5pm and ends at Arthur Ave. in front of the library. At 6:30, the Lighting Ceremony will begin in front of Lakewood Hospital, followed by fireworks over the rooftops of Downtown Lakewood.

Detroit Road will twinkle with holiday lights. Guests can also expect to see ice carvers demonstrating their art and even view live reindeer and beautiful huskies. Step inside to the warmth and shop at the Vendor Village inside the historic Masonic Hall, where children’s games and fun will be offered on the lower level. 

Cleveland’s food trucks will be takin’ it to the street in The Coral Company Food Court, and music will fill the air. Strings, bands, choirs and dancers will appear in the third floor atrium of Lakewood Hospital; the Main Stage in front of the hospital on Detroit Avenue; and on stages indoors and out at the Lakewood Public Library.

There will also be opportunities to meet Santa and Elsa and Anna from Frozen.
