After spending the summer pitching their businesses to investors in the Cleveland Chain Reaction project, Fox 8's morning show, Kickin’ It With Kenny announced this morning the six winning companies that will set up shop in the Slavic Village neighborhood.

Inspired by CNBC's Cleveland Hustles, Cleveland Chain Reaction aims to keep the economic development wave going with up to $1 million invested in five new businesses — all in one neighborhood.
Fresh Water pulled into the funky co-working space on Lee Road and met up with four of the resident businesses to get their stories and hear about what motivates and excites them.
While most Clevelanders were finally finishing off the Thanksgiving leftovers, these organizations were busy announcing loans and programs aimed at helping area small businesses, entrepreneurs and employees with good ideas.

Such is the mindset of Lyz Otero, owner of Half Moon Bakery, a soon-to-be-opened seller of traditional Latin pastries and empanadas. Otero took the leap with a little help from the Economic and Community Development Institute (ECDI), an organization that in August announced more than $530,000 in loans to 21 Cleveland-area businesses.

Fresh Water editor Erin O'Brien has extolled the virtues of Sabor Miami's rich, creamy and downright decadent Cafe con Leche (Cuban latte) as "the best cup of coffee she's ever had" both publicly and privately. It seems she's not alone.

In just three years, the Cleveland Culinary Launch and Kitchen has produced a wealth of successful food businesses, some of which have outgrown the incubator and moved on to their own locations.
