Hot stuff: Cleveland Heights launches SummerFEST this week

Summer has arrived, with warm weather, long nights, and plenty of fun. Beginning this week, the Cedar Fairmount Special Improvement District (SID) in Cleveland Heights begins celebrating SummerFEST—a summer-long slate of free Thursday evening concerts from local musicians, historic walking tours, kids activities, and even Saturday morning live Brazilian jazz with Moises Borges.

This year, all concerts will be held at the Pocket Park at The Ascent at Top of the Hill, a new green space located at the top of Cedar Hill between the new development and Nighttown

SummerFEST kicks off this Thursday, June 22 with Blue Lunch. The Cleveland blues favorite will also play July 20 and August 17. Rachel Brown & The Beatnik Playboys play their country-blues inspired songs on June 29; Moises Borges and Friends take the stage on July 27; and Tamil Jordan Jazz Band plays on Aug. 10.  All concerts are from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

In addition to the concerts, Cleveland Heights Church will host The Kids’ Fun Zone, a collection of activities for toddlers and children of all ages.

Enjoy Moises Borges while enjoying coffee or brunch on the Luna Bakery & Café patio on Saturday, June 17 and Saturday, July 15 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Ken Goldberg, president of the Cleveland Heights Historical Society, returns to SummerFEST to host free Wednesday evening historic walking tours of the Cedar Fairmount district from 7 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. Participants will meet in front of Firestone Complete Auto Care at Grandview and Cedar Roads.
