Instruments of Change
On October 18, join the Earth Day Coalition at smARTspace (inside 78th Street Studios) for its 20th annual "Instrumental Evening for the Earth." Go gallery hopping around 78th Street Studios, bid on eco-friendly swag and getaways, groove to the Brad Smedley Acoustic Jazz Trio and The CruiseMasters, and savor gourmet dishes from top local restaurants. For Those About to Rock, We Salute You
Two free drinks, food, music, raffle prizes, and a fun way to support the Cleveland Young Professional Senate? Sounds like a good use of $25 (in advance) or $30 (at the door) to us. Head to Hingetown for the Cleveland YPS "Rock the Box" happy hour fundraiser at Jukebox, which takes place on Thursday, October 19, from 6-8 p.m. All proceeds benefit the organization's mission of civic engagement, involvement, and advocacy for Greater Cleveland's young professional community.

Imagine the Possibilities
"It was 50 years ago today...." On Saturday, October 21, celebrate 50 years of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band with Beatles tribute band The Mersey Beatles—straight outta Liverpool—at the Kent Stage. John Lennon’s sister, Julia Baird, will also be on hand to introduce the show and sign copies of her book Imagine This: Growing Up with My Brother John Lennon. Take a Picture, It’ll Last Longer
Got camera, will hike? Join local photographer David Perelman-Hall for a photo hike through the Doan Brook gorge from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. A $25 donation is requested and will be collected in cash or check on the day of the event. Pre-registration is required—sign up here or by contacting Andrew Klooster at 216-325-7781 or klooster@doanbrookpartnership.org. An optional digital photography workshop will also be available to participants on Tuesday, October 24, from 7-9 p.m. at Coventry's Artful Cleveland studio.

Pass the Popcorn
It's not truly October until you've seen at least one scary movie. Meet that goal—and then some—at the Capitol Theatre, where the 8th annual "12 Hours of Terror" all-night horror movie marathon will showcase frightening favorites like Hellraiser, Rawhead Rex, Motel Hell, Pet Sematary, Doctor Butcher, M.D., Freddy Vs. Jason, and a surprise "secret" showing. The event takes place on October 21 from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m., and continental breakfast is included to fight off any lingering queasiness. Tickets range from $30 in advance to $35 day of show.

Shine On
Who needs an "American Idol" reboot when CLE has its own top-notch singing competition? The inaugural Shining Star CLE will be held on Sunday, October 22, at 7 p.m. at the Ohio Theatre at Playhouse Square. After narrowing down the field of students from 75+ Northeast Ohio high schools, the top 10 finalists are set to take the stage to vie for more than $20,000 in college scholarships. Along with benefiting local youth, the event will also raise funds to support memory care at Montefiore's two senior living campuses in Chagrin Falls and Beachwood.

Calling All Day of the Dead-Heads
On October 28, Gordon Square meets Mexico for a festive, free, and family-friendly Día de Muertos celebration from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. The event takes place at the Cleveland Public Theatre and features face painting, live music, Latin food, and visual art exhibits—along with a "Skulls and Skeletons" procession down Detroit Avenue. (Due to its popularity, pre-registration is required to march in the parade). Don't miss the vibrant display of altars created by local artists, along with the main altar paying tribute to Frida Kahlo.
