Editor's note: More than a year after this article was published, Vedas Fitness has rebranded and is now known as the Spa at Trilogy.
Downtown-based boutique gym Vedas Fitness is celebrating the final phase of a nearly $3 million renovation of its second location—a state-of-the-art gym that opened in January inside the space that was once home to The Club at Key Center.
On May 1, co-owners Tammy Polenz and Ricky Buoncore unveiled a new Ayurvedic spa and salon inside the 20,000-square-foot facility, blending modern aesthetics with ancient methods for achieving mind-body-spirit balance.
The fact that the salon and spa at Vedas Fitness is the first to open in downtown in more than a dozen years isn’t the only attribute that makes it unique. Rather, it’s the highly individualized, holistic approach that’s taken with each relaxation and beautification ritual.
“The goal is to create an experience totally different than you can get elsewhere in Cleveland,” explains Polenz. “For example, a guest might savor a pre-treatment eucalyptus steam, then retreat to a relaxation room for distilled water before an aromatherapy facial using natural products set to a track of soothing rhythms.”
The space is designed to be eco-friendly, utilizing cardio machines with less electrical requirements, recycled rubber floors, low-VOC paints, energy-efficient lighting, and bamboo in the lobby. The old club’s rooftop has been repurposed into a “green deck” where yoga classes will be held. The spa also carries organic lines like Natural Naturopathica and Numa, which Polenz says “smells so good you could almost eat it.”
Polenz and Buoncore have enlisted Monique Marengo (owner of the downtown district’s only other salon and spa—Marengo Luxury Spa, located in the Arcade) at the helm as Spa Director.
Although she’s specialized in corporate wellness programs for much of her 25-year career as a fitness professional, Polenz is enthused that the new facility will enable her team to design whole-body wellness plans that incorporate chiropractic care, gym memberships, and retreats. Current clients include MAI Wealth Capital, Millennia, and AmTrust.
“Companies are caring more and more about their employees’ well-being these days," says Polenz. "We offer more traditional corporate wellness services like health risk assessments, but can customize a whole spectrum of other activities. For example, an incentive for top performers [might include] a yoga class, spa services, and a catered lunch-and-learn session on techniques for relaxation.”
Members of Vedas Fitness receive discounts on spa services. Currently, monthly membership is $100 with a $150 enrollment fee and includes parking and fitness classes. Week or day passes are available, as well as group fitness class packages. Membership at the other boutique fitness facility (located in the IMG building) is available for $45 a month with a $50 enrollment fee.
