Pastry chef Courtney Bonning plans to open Bonbon Pastry and Café this summer in the former Athens Bakery shop at W. 26th and Lorain Avenue, further boosting available food offerings in Ohio City.

For decades, Ohio City's Lorain Avenue has been a symbol of beautiful decay. But thanks to the development boom taking place along West 25th Street, more entrepreneurs are beginning to set up shop on Lorain. Among the additions are a gourmet chili restaurant, vintage clothing store, architecture office and yoga studio -- all part of the neighborhood's burgeoning artisan economy.
glbc ranks as 22nd largest craft brewery
Great Lakes Brewing Company has announced that it has been ranked the 22nd largest American craft brewery. GLBC was previously ranked number twenty-three.
"GLBC reported 91,189 barrels sold in 2010. GLBC also ranked as the 31st largest brewery in the US (Anheuser–Busch Inc. ranked 1st). GLBC does not contract brew; 100% of product is produced onsite in its Cleveland-based brewery."

In this video presented by Ohio City Inc. (formerly Ohio City Near West Development Corp.), organizers lay out their plans for a new and improved "harvest-themed" Market Square Park. The park, originally built in the 1970s, is undergoing a $1.5 million makeover as part of a series of improvements taking place around the West Side Market.
The Punxsutawney Phil of the retail world, pop-up shops spontaneously appear, attract big crowds, and then vanish as quickly as they came. For retailers and artists without a bona fide storefront, pop-up shops provide a lease-free way to test products and build a following. Landlords love them because they plug vacant storefronts while attracting new feet to the street.

In addition to providing the freshest possible product at the lowest possible price, the wine-by-the keg approach is as eco-friendly as it gets. When Sam McNulty opens his Ohio City-based Market Garden Brewery later this year, he will join four other micro-distilleries scattered about the state. Cincinnati's Woodstone Creek is the oldest, followed by Columbus' Middle West Spirits, Grandview's Watershed Distillery, and Tom's Foolery in rural Geauga County. Others, too, are waiting in the wings. Sadly, Ohio, a state rich with entrepreneurship and agricultural resources, makes it nearly impossible for them to succeed.
